GOSPEL INTENT

The second significant area of study regarding the Gospel is its INTENT

This will answer the question WHY. So, what is the INTENT of the Gospel? Jesus said: "For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, BUT whoever loses his life FOR ME and FOR THE GOSPEL will SAVE IT" (Mk.8:35). We can see that the intent of the Gospel is so that man may be saved (receive SALVATION). Paul supplies the following powerful understanding in writing to the Ephesians: "And you also were INCLUDED IN CHRIST when you heard the Word of Truth, the Gospel of your SALVATION. Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit GUARANTEEING our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession . . ." (Eph.1:13). It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to realize that SALVATION is not only an EVENT but also a PROCESS. Remember we cannot lose our salvation but we can surely lose some of the benefits (power) of salvation (eg. answered prayer). The PROCESS of SALVATION can be understood in three phases:

Preparation - Reparation - Separation

As noted above, this process leads to the redemption of those who are God's possession. This REDEMPTION is the conversion to the IMMORTAL state. As Paul wrote to Timothy: ". . . it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought IMMORTALITY TO LIGHT THROUGH THE GOSPEL . . ." (2Tim.1:10). John provides further testimony: ". . .Then I saw another angel (messenger) flying in mid-air and he had the ETERNAL GOSPEL to proclaim to those who live on the earth --- to every nation, tribe, language and people" (Rev.14:6). Before we embark on a revelation of the three phases, it is critical that we have a basic understanding of WHAT THE CHURCH IS. Everything that calls itself a church is NOT NECESSARILY A CHURCH. Denominations ARE NOT CHURCHES. Any group not comprised as Paul revealed (ie apostles, prophets, teachers etc.) IS NOT THE CHURCH. We intend to produce a substantial article on what the church is at a later time but for now please be open-minded. Remember what Jesus said: "Not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord will enter the Kingdom of Heaven"
(Mt.7:21). We have shown in the essay on prayer the possibilities in relation to being IN CHRIST. These will help us understand the SALVATION PROCESS and are as follows:

A. We can NOT BE IN CHRIST and know that WE ARE NOT IN CHRIST

B. We can NOT BE IN CHRIST but THINK WE ARE IN CHRIST

C. We can BE IN CHRIST but ACT AS THOUGH WE ARE NOT IN CHRIST

D. We can BE IN CHRIST and ACT AS THOUGH WE ARE IN CHRIST
